I'm looking at the trail map for Jack Frost mountain. Howcome all the novice trails are on top of the mountain

And also after the novice trail ends, it is the blue trails. How are we supposed to ski down the mountain if we are newbies? Are you allowed to take the lifts down the mountain? Last resort I went to they did not allow us to take the lifts down the mountain.

That's because Jack Frost is built upside down. The Lodge, parking areas, tubing area, and rental shops are at the top and you ski down before you ride up. The novice area at JF is to the skier's left. If you notice the lifts are shorter on the right side of the map. That's because you only ski down that far and then take the lift back up to the top.

The advanced trails go all the way to the bottom of the mountain. All that you'll find at the bottom is the lift shacks, pump houses and the Tobyhanna Creek.

Im guessing they have cat walks that you can take down that will just cut arcoss the mountian back and forth it would tak you a long time to get down though. That or they have a life at the end of that run.

The novice trails are there because that is how mother nature made the mountain. People don;t determine the difficulty of the trails, they only remove the trees and decide where they go. The top is naturally less steep than the rest of the mountain. It looks like a small mountain, and the difficulty ratings are relative to the mountain. The blue trail called "easy rider" would probably be a green an another place, hence the name "easy rider." They also don't have any double diamonds, which means that it isn't a hard mountain.

The novice trails are at the top because the amazing pennsylvania mountains are ideal for skiing (not) in reality, its because the mountains around here are very small and not steep at all. mountains here dont actualy come to a peak, but just sort of round off at the top. this accounts for why the top of the mountain is less steep than the bottom.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SKI DOWN DIFFICULT TRIALS!
If you look closely, there will be at least one very easy way down the mountain: a trail that some of the other easy trails converge into. Even if it is not listed on the trail map as a green circle, there will be one very easy way down. indeed, this trail is often marked with signs that say EASIEST WAY DOWN

I would be surprised if you were allowed to ride back down the lifts. most mountains do not allow this unless there is some kind of emergency. this shouldnt be a concern anyway because there are no extremely difficult trails at Jack Frost. even a "newbie" will be able to comfortably make it down at least one way.

if you are still nervous, you might want to consider Big Boulder, which is jack frost's sister resort. it is only a few miles in the other direction, and is even off the same highway exit (the number escapes my memory) honestly this is only a five or so minuet drive between the resorts.

Big boulder is a very small mountain and is IDEAL for "newbies" there are easy trails that span the entire mountain and no trail is too difficult. Also, bigboulder is home to one of the best terrain parks in the northeast, but you dont have to be on that part of the mountain. if you do desire to watch some freestlye skiing or even give it a go, there will be many good skiiers there. my friends and i often drive there ebecause the park is so good.
