Yosemite Trail Question.?

Does anyone know if there is a trail in Yosemite that leads up to the top of El Capitan? I have a small map and it "looks" like the trail leading up past Upper Yosemite Falls can lead to to the top of El Capitan. It appears to be about a 3-4 mile hike past Upper Yosemite Falls if I am reading the map correctly. If this is not a trail is there one to get to the top without climbing the face of El Capitan? I would like to hike to the top if possible and overlook the valley. If someone knows of a trail, can you also tell me how many miles it is and how long it may take an average person to do the hike.
Thank you
Rudy
Thank you for your help

I don't have any personal experience with the trail to the top of El Cap but here's some information from my topographic mapping program. There are 3 trails to the summit of El Cap. The shortest is the Yosemite Falls trail that you asked about. It's 6.6 miles one way with a starting elevation of 4,000 feet and ending at 7,569 feet. That's a pretty good workout by anyone's standard and the round trip should only be attempted if you're in very good condition.

The second trail starts at Tamarack Campground which is reached from Hwy 120. This trail is 8.3 miles one way, starts at 6,348 feet, drops to 5,797 feet, climbs to 7,722 feet and drops to the top of El Cap at 7,569 feet. Longer trip than the Falls trail but easier in terms of elevation gain.

The third trial starts from Yosemite Creek Campground which is also reached from Hwy 120. This trail is the longest at 8.8 miles one-way, starts at 7,197 feet, drops to 6,795 feet and climbs to the top of El Cap at 7,659 feet. This trail is similar to the second in terms of the effort required to complete the hike.

Based on my experience I estimate that each of these trails will take from 8 to 10 hours to complete the round trip if you're in good shape. But I wouldn't bet my life on this estimate as I haven't hiked any of these trails and I don't know what kind of condition they're in.

The Falls trail is the shortest but also the steepest with the greatest elevation gain. This trail may be the most strenuous but that is offset by the fantastic views of the valley on the way up and back down again. The problem with great views is you spend too much time looking and before you know it, it's getting dark.

Whichever trail you decide to hike, good-luck and have fun.
Yes, I believe that the top of El Capitan can be accessed by the Upper Yosemite Falls trail. It's about 8 miles from the trail head (that's one-way).

Time depends on your hiking abilities, but for me, I would camp.
