Use a proportion to solve this problem: please help...? |
On a map the length of a nature-center trail is 6.8 centimerters. If the scale is 1 centimeters to 10 kilometers what is the actual length of the trail? can you please show me how to do this? 1 cm = 10 km 6.8 cm = 6.8 x 10 km 6.8 cm = 68 km once centimeter is to 1 kilometers..ie 1:10 as 6.8cm is to some number...x..ie 6.8:x 1/10=6.8/x cross multiply and get x=68 The scale 1 cm to 10 km means that every cm on the map represents 10 km on the ground. So, you have 6.8 cm on the map, so this represents 6.8 lots of 10km on the ground, which is equal to 68km. So there ! |
