Are there any online maps of Japan showing the areas destroyed by various movie monsters? |
I have to believe that someone out there who is a fan of Japanese monster movies, including UltraMan, Godzilla, and the like, has done a map of the areas destroyed and the dates destroyed, and by which monster(s). Obviously Tokyo will probably be the most destroyed, but the Monsters usually end up there after leaving a trail of destruction. I don't think there is. I have seen many Japanese Godzilla books which will show destruction maps for the movie they are talking about. These are books like this: http://www.tohokingdom.com/books/everyth... But nothing that has been compiled for all the monsters. Part of the problem is that Godzilla and his friends are Toho studios, and Gamera and his pals are Daei Studios, so these two wouldn't be in movie books together. If you live near a city, check out Japanese bookstore in your area and go browse. Another great opportunity is to visit G-Fest, a Godzilla and Japanese Monster convention held every year outside Chicago. Japan has a very advanced damage control infrastructure, first developed when the Americans dropped the atom bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Nowadays, the Damage Inc company is able to totally rebuild and repair infrastructure destroyed by all the natural disasters; earthquake, tsunamis, typhoons, floods, volcanic eruption, sushi contamination and YES, destruction caused by monster rampages and Ultraman fights. The company motto, There is no destruction to small and no annihilation too big. Of course, the bill is forwarded to the Ultraman council, which has no need for currency, since they are superior beings. The company is proud that any destruction can be turned around in 24 hours, making it impossible for map-makers like me to identify the trail of destruction.
