History homework in need of help?

So i got an assignment today that is a map of Vietnam that we need to fill out. one of the directions says Draw the demilitarized zone in green and what does demilitarize mean? the other says Draw the Ho Chi Minh trail and what was the purpose of this trail. Number four reads Before WWII who controlled all of indochina? and the last one says Why was it difficult for neighboring countries to remain uninvolved in the conflict of Vietnam? yea, and none of these answers are in the history book...she said we had to find them on our own...does anyone has any tips as to where i could find these answers. I have googled and found nothing! thanks! Bugs

Ho Chi Minh Trail:
A trail leading into and out of Vietnam that was used as a highway to transport goods and weapons throughout Vietnam during the war.

Indochina was a French colony prior to WWII. During WWII the French were a bit pre-occupied with avoiding German occupation that they 'forgot' about Vietnam. When the war was over, the French went back to reclaim the territory, and found not-so-willing indiginous people.

Laos, Cambodia, and the rest of Southeast Asia were dragged kicking and screaming into the conflict in Vietnam because of the Ho Chi Minh trail, Carpet bombing, and the need of resources found in neighboring countries. Source(s): There's a lot more than this. My search words were "Vietnam War"

Here is an answer I bet you hadn't considered: Talk to a Vietnam veteran, especially about "what does demilitarize mean" and "what was the purpose of the Ho Chi Minh trail."

Perhaps a neighbor of your parents' age who served in the war.

I bet you will get a better answer than what you can find on the Internet.
Demilitarized zone means an area where the military is no longer in control - in other words, where it is controlled by local(civilian) governments. Look up the Viet Nam war on the internet, and also use your search engine for the Ho Chi Minh trail. If you can't find them by googling, try changing the words you are typing in. Viet NAm, Ho Chi Minh, Pre-war Indochina should put you on the right trail. The reason the neighboring countries had such problems was because ethnically, the people were all the same. They had traded with and lived with the Vietnamese for centuries. It was something like the war between the states -- hard to tell who was friend and who was enemy.
Think of the dmz as a no man's land; it's sort of a neutral territory between two contested areas. Korea still has one to this day. The Ho Chi Minh Trail was the route from the North to the South taken by the Viet Cong. "Indochine" as it was called during its colonial stage (there is a remarkable French film with the name as its title starring Catherine Deneuve btw) was controlled by France. Hope that helps
