Did the 'Monkey Trails' resolve the question of evolution? |
I'm not referring to Clarence Darrow and William Jennings Bryan here. Bruce Chatwin鈥檚, THE SONGLINES, documents the underlying premise of my question: Chatwin鈥檚 research concluded that aboriginals in Australia believe[d] the continent, the world, reality was 鈥榮ung鈥?into existence by ancestral deities as they traveled along a matrix of trails, commemorated in song and kept in existence by repetitions of those songs by travelers. The lyrics also functioned as maps for travelers. Maybe those black men who were our ancestors followed trails made by their own ancestral apes, followed by more human apes throughout history, singing Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it's off to work we go, and singing all the religions of mankind along the way. Wouldn't you say religion been the best safety valve on human numbers throughout history? It's the weak church we must fear. The Chuch without the power to kill millions of people.
