How do you measure mileage for running without having to drive? |
I'm planning on beginning a training program for a marathon. How do you know how far you have gone without mapping it out with a car? (I plan on doing a lot of trail running.) I'm used to just timing myself and don't really know how far I really go most of the time. Theres lots of sites you can use that use google maps software and you can map your route on the sites, they will then tell you the distance run. If you are running trail routes the paths won't be shown on the maps, but in many areas if you click either 'satelite' or 'hybrid' view and look at the satelite photo you can often see the routes ran and map along them. Alternativly you could use a GPS monitor or similar, Timex and Polar do good heart rate/distance monitors; howver these can be quite an expense. So this works too: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/ Once you get the hang of it, you can map out any route. Hello, There are a few good ways to do it....try these: 1. Pedometer - inexpensive...but not real accurate 2. Google Earth's measuring tool - free download 3. GPS - great training tool!! (but can be pricey) Hope that helps.
