Appalatian Mountain Trip? |
going to the appalatian and surrounding mountain area. going camping as well as checking out different sites around the area where west virginia meets virginia around there. any good places to go to?any historical sites good camping sites trails museums or whatever? we've got a car and a map and we are going to just about anywhere around there along that border area. let me know some cool stuff to check out... thanks for the help. A few things to see: The Homestead : http://www.thehomestead.com/about-resort... Beautiful resort (this new website is horrible and does NOT do it justice) on a mountain outside of Coventry, Virginia. The drive up is beautiful too. Greenbrier: Another resort that, if you can talk your way onto the grounds, is definitely worth seeing: http://www.greenbrier.com/site/default.a... Also you should see the Natural Bridge. My grandmother had a picture of this in her dining room for close to 60 years. I saw it when I was a little girl and went back about 3 years ago. I was expecting it to be corny and touristy (which it is touristy) but it was amazing once you come upon it. http://www.naturalbridgeva.com/bridge.ht... You may also want to spend a day and a night in Roanoke. Its a valley city between two mountain ranges. Downtown has some wonderful restaurants and shopping. At night you can see the Mill Mountain Star illuminated and it is the most beautiful sight. My dad grew up in a house that overlooked the mountain/star and I used to love looking out the back of my grandparents house at night to see it lit up.
