Thinking about buying a street bike?

Ok I am thinking about buying a street bike but just to ride around on because of gas...

I am about 5'6 140lbs...
I just was wondering what would be a good bike for me? I just what something that looks good and runs good for me to ride around on around town...

Dont need nothing with a bunch of power since it is my first bike...

What should I look for when buying a bike?

Good price range for a good used bike like I described?

Yea that what I was thinking about getting

Something in the 175-400 CC range should be fine for you then. The smaller end will be cheaper to buy and operate, light enough to maneuver it easily, and still work on city streets. The larger end will be a bit more expensive, use a little more fuel, and be heavier, but you should still be able to manage it.

Prices will vary depending on age, condition, brand, etc. I'd start searching the local dealers to see what they have.

Two other things to consider:

If you've never rode a bike before, or only a little, think hard about taking a motorcycle safety class. You'll learn a lot about riding and safety.

Also - get the best helmet you can afford. When I got my bike, I was told that you put a $10 head in a $10 helmet. How much do you value your head?

that depends a lot on what type of bike
sport bike = Ninja 250
cruiser = Honda Rebel
dual sport =Honda xl250 enduro
any of these make great first bikes for a beginner your size

the 250 is a nice bike, but if you want a great bike, buy the kawasaki ninja 500. it is not to big, and not to small and it has the perfect amount of power for the starting rider. and it gets great mpg. for the perfect price, buy a 02-05, an 02 would be about 2995, 05 would be about 3495.

Definetly need a 600cc. Look for parts replaced, road rash, and tires. Used sportbikes go from 2500 to 4500 hundred depending on year and mileage for a good price.

I am 5'4" and 105 lbs. I bought a used Honda Shadow 650 for $1200 and it ran great and got good mpg. Being a girl, I thought it was just a tad big for me, yet I liked it when on the open highway because of turbulence from passing cars. (I was no speed demon)

So I'd offer that the size you want depends on whether you plan to ride it in town only and never get on the highway. If just in town you might like something between 450-650 cc.

I know that Harleys are over-priced! The engine is offest and runs rough but some like that since it makes their image seem "rough" however, ask any Harly owner what they do for fun and they usually say "Work on my bike!" Thats because the darn thing is always breaking down!! hahaha -

Several Harley riders once surrounded my scooter-club a few years ago and scowled at us like we were wimps - then when the light changed two sped off and one stalled!! He had to take it off the street to a nearby pub and the scooter guys laffed their bums off!!!

I used to like to rev my scooter engine at Harleys when they stopped by me at red lights and they'd laff but my scooter had great take off and I'd usually beat them to the next light if it was just a short block!! They'd grin and give me the Harley wave the next time they saw me. :)

ninja 250 would be a great choice for a first bike...
