Buying a bike from someone who doesnt have the title. Crash repot? |
I want to buy this street bike from a friend, but he bought it as-is from a junkyard. The bike is being sold with no title or anything except the actually bike. After I fix it up how would I got about making it street legal and getting a title for it? I live in PA by the way It isn't a good idea to buy any vehicle without a title. You may be able to get a bill of sale from the junk yard and take it to the DMV for reissue of a title, but it depends on the laws of your state. Call them and ask before you lay out any money for the bike. No title, no sale! This is not legal and no excuses are acceptable. He has no legal right to sell it without a title, and you are not buying anything! You cannot register it without a title. "Chain of title" is critical in proving ownership and this has to be established to get it registered, get plates, get insurance, etc. Do not under any circumstances buy this bike! Don't, unless you have unlimited money and time to deal with the potential situation. What if the junkyard See's you riding and wants it back? Who has the title? Not you so give it back. Good luck. You wouldn't, and couldn't. Since vehicles are sold by title, and this one doesn't have one, it can be sold as parts only, and I'm sure that's what the "as is" meant at the junk yard. |
