Motorcycle stopped running.....stuck valves?

I have a 600cc street bike and started to ride it today. The oil was a little low and I was almost to the shop to buy some more. About two miles from my house, the bike lost power, started clacking real bad and then just died. It will turn over, but won't run. I also noticed that it went through a bunch of oil real quick for some reason. What do you think happened?

Anytime you hear the dreaded "metal clanking against metal" sound its usually bad news.

Sounds like you threw a rod and/or a part of the cylinder wall chipped off and went flying around in one of your cylinders.

Check your oil and see if you have a bunch of metal particles on your dipstick. If you do then that means you blew your motor.

If the oil looks ok I would do a compression check on each of the cylinders to see what is going on.

Sometimes the engine will still run with a thrown rod.

It doesn't make much difference what the problem WAS, because now you have a new problem, namely, SOMEONE ran it with no oil in it and ruined the engine. If you were observant, you may have noticed a blue cloud coming out of your exhaust pipe or your rear tire covered with oil. All of these are clues as to what may have happened, but without some observations from you, no diagnosis can be made. (A big hose puking oil put in front of the rear tire means you holed a piston which means you have an exhaust leak (are you running open headers? or leaks where the mufflers hook to the headers.

my guess is that you blew the rings. you have no more compression in the cylinders so it won't fire. you'll probably need to replace all the bearings and oil pump. sounds like it was more tahn a little low... next time buy oil before you ride it.

carbs way tooo rich thats why it burns oil , its not the valves cuz it turns over , i say cams or carb

that souds like a ring problem if it smoked it blew it out.
