CBR600rr: How to adjust my bikes mirrors for best visibility?

I just got a Honda CBR600rr a few days ago, it's my first bike and my biking experience is very minimal so excuse my ignorance. Is there a way to adjust the mirrors to get the same visibility as you get in a car?

No matter what I do, I either end up seeing my arms covering half the mirrow or end up not seeing half the street.

Why is a CBR your first bike? surely you have ridden something smaller in order to pass your CBT or is this a question to catch people out. One of the first things you learn in a CBT is how to adjust your mirrors and to know about blind spots, which is why you should always look over your shoulder regardless.

I know exactly what you mean.
What you do is this. The mirror on your right should be showing behind you. The video on the left should be showing behind you but more to the left..

hard to explain but see video below that says "How to ride and stay alive" also see "how to dress for high speed riding"

This is typical of mirrors on a sports bike. The best you can hope for is to adjust them so the half of them show your elbow. You just need to squeeze in your elbow when you check the mirrors to get a full view.

You can adjust them out a bit if you want more view all the time but you will compromise the "best" view possible.

You can stick on small "fish eye" mirrors to the top outside corners of the bike's mirrors to assist with seeing what is near to you. They don't give a good image but they will allow you to see that something is there.

Ok, now listen carefully...
1. Throw your leg over your bike and grasp both grips gently - lid optional at this stage.
2.Choose which mirror you want to adjust.
3.Gently lay your hand of the same side on the mirror and give it a little tweak until you see that your mirror is entirely filled with images from behind you.
4.Repeat with other side... gently now... you don't want to offend your new baby.
5.Place both hands on the bars and admire your handiwork.

Ok, ok, ok, just joking. But seriously you aren't gonna get anything like the feedback you get in a car, that's why you're riding a CBR remember? Just start being aware all time of what's going on around you - scan and plan and do your head-checks, right? Eventually those mirrors will mostly be helpful for keeping a check on the idiots behind you at a red light, amongst other things!

same visibility as you get in a car? hmm... change the mirrors and get a bigger one?

Push it out to see the road.

bin them
LOOK OVER YOUR SHOULDER INSTEAD

Or fit bar end mirrors
Anyway why look at the dudes behind when you should be looking at those you are overtaking.
Fit a reversing camera and a screen from Maplin (HONEST best I've seen yet)
