Is this a phobia...Im dead scared???

Last year my fiance and i had an accident on a motorbike. We both came flying off the motorbike and i landed in the middle of the street with nothing broken luckily! My fiance too. We were both lucky to be alive. The driver of the car didnt put his indicator on and just decided to turn infront of us.

Since then i am dead scared of getting into a car, and refuse to get on a bike! But i have to get to places, with other people taking me in the car like my dad. When a car or bike turn infront of us, or simply turns the corner at a stop street, i get so scared that my legs go lame, and it feels like my heart wants to burst! I dont know why.

I also have a very big fear of Trucks, especially the BIG ones with 16+ wheels. My mother used to take sleeping tablets and drive with me in the car when i was small, and she used to fall asleep alot behind the wheel.

Whats wrong with me? i dont think ill ever be able to drive on my own... ill probably panic and crash for something stupid!!!

You may still be in shock from the accident and nnow have anxiety which is brought on through any association with what had happened to you. Any situations that remind you of the accident will bring on the anxiety. Go and see your doc. He or she may be able to recommend something to help you overcome this. xxx

Yes it is s phobia, and you know the cause. Obviously knowing the cause is not curing it so desensitization therapy is needed.
Your fears are out of proportion to the dangers involved in driving. If you consider the number of people injured falling in a shower you would not do it. Part of life is risk so we take the ones that are reasonable. We cannot give up living because of an unfortunate accident. If we do that we that we are not living just existing. Good luck!

Yes its a phobia, and I'd like to suggest you see a therapist about this, they can help you overcome your fear. Its understandable that youd be hesitant to get in a car, good luck!
