Kona cowan 2008 question?

I got a 2008 kona cowan what are some fairly cheap upgrade parts for that bike would make it a bit more of a beast PS i dirt jump and some trial rieding and tiny bit of street help give me exact names of parts and sites i can see and read about them on thank you so much See ya

The first thing I'd do is buy a set of bombproof wheels that will handle more abuse. The Transition Bombshells and Halo Combats are awesome....so are the Azonic Outlaws and Atomlab GI's. You can get into any of those for $225-$350 (the Atomlabs are the most expensive of the bunch).

I'd switch out the shifters to something better, and maybe think about a better derailleur like an LX mid-cage or something relatively cheap like that. If you don't ride a lot of trails, then think about turning it into a single speed...you'll save a lot of weight, get a silent bike, and not have to worry about dropping the chain.

http://www.ride-this.com is a great site for serious parts, and they're good guys. Any bike shop can order most of this stuff for you from the distributors, too. You can look at BTI's catalog at http://www.bti-usa.com (can't order, but it'll show you what's available through them....they're a huge national distributor that your shop can probably use). Also, check out http://www.chainreactioncycles ....they're in the UK, but their site it excellent and they stock so much in the way of dh/trials/dirt jump stuff that it's worth browsing for awhile.

Other than that, the Cowan is pretty decently spec'd with components that aren't wimpy. I wouldn't replace anything else until you have to. (If you do much street riding and start taking bigger drops to flat, you'll blow through a bottom bracket eventually....in that case, replace it with a Raceface DH or a Funn.....the Funn is heavy but superheavy duty durable.)

hmmm.........convert it to a single speed, mechanical disk brakes, thats all i got,.,,,,,sick bike
