What kind of gas mileage does your japanese street bike get? [GSX-R, Ninja, R6, CBR]?

also, how hard do you drive it and when do you usually shift?
im getting 35 mpg on my 98' Suzuki GSX-R 600 SRAD, and i usually shift around 8K RPM's.

i read that i should be getting more like 40-45 mpg.
can someone who OWNS a similar bike clarify this?

also, what can i do to get better gas mileage? [WITHOUT changing my driving style]

check my stats, i always select the best answer.

My 1998 gsxr 750 SRAD gets 38-45 depending on how much I hot rod it. It is EFI though.

your best bet to improve mileage is a tuneup (plugs, check to make sure jetting on the carbs is right, and air filter). If everything checks out okay there then.. Keep your tires inflated to the correct pressure... ummm.. maybe lose weight? weight has a drastic effect on most 4-cylinders.

Besides that, obviously riding style or simply drafting other vehicles more.

Honestly, I wouldnt worry too much. It sounds like you are getting pretty reasonable gas mileage, especially with your apparent riding style.

I personally accelerate slowly, draft constantly, and usually shift around 6000 rpm and cruise at around 4500rpm.

Hope this helps.

I have a 2004 R6 with a few mods on it and it runs 45mpg whether I am going 50 or 150. The only thing tat I have seen have a real affect on the mpg is having a second person on it, that drops it a lot other than that it does not change more than a few mpgs under any other situation. I dont think there is really much you can do to help it. They are not like a car they are just going to run what they run for the most part. Keep you air filter clean and thats about all you can do.

This will give you an idea of the average MPG of bikes.

90 cbr 600 and i get like 40-45, i'd say i ride it pretty hard shift any where from 7-12k rpm's, but say the speed limit is 45 i'll go like 50-55mph in 4th gear just cause i like when it's loud, and its safer in a sense cause people hear me coming

Another big factor in getting the most mpg's is WHERE you are riding. In the city with lots of stop lights? On the freeway with NO stoplights? I usually get about 130 miles out of a tank of gas (3.5 gallons) or about 160 on a long non-stop freeway ride.

as you know riding it HARD will give you less miles per gallon, so if you're REALLY that woried about it, slow down a bit and ride like a grandma. That would kind of ruin the fun of owning a bike though...

On a 2000 ZR7 I get between 35 and 55 mpg. Since you don't want to change your rideing style try laying down on the tank more to cut wind resistance, not only will it get better mileage, but you can go faster.

1994 Yamaha YZF 750R gets 45MPG taking it easy. 35MPG high RPM and showing off.
Lower RPMs improves gas mileage. Not reving at red lights and in between shifts also helps. Less downshifting to reduce speed, would wear the pads more but still save on gas.
Use name brand gas. I know it sounds stupid and I never believed it until I tried it. The no name stuff that is usually 3 or 4 cents cheaper burns faster. it's like it's watered down or something. Use BP93 or Hess93. The 93 has more detergents in it so your fuel system runs more clean.
Clean your air filter also.

My '07 Bandit 1250 is getting about 28 to 29 on steep SoCal twisties, riding good and hard, and hanging in 2nd and 3rd (of 6). If I set it up right at just shy of 4K, and cruise the freeways at 70mph, I think I get about 35 to 38. In town, I like to hit the hot spot before I shift, usually around 7 - 7.5K. (Red line is 10K, I think... Don't actually remember. LOL ) If I do that, my torque is still quite tall when I hit the next gear up, and I can still maintain a "fun" (yet reasonably safe) acceleration style. :)

I don't honestly know if I hurt my mileage at all with the TFi box from holeshot.com, but I did put that on recently.

As a previous owner of a '92 Kawasaki ZR1100, I remember I used to get around 35 to 40 on that. That one was carburetted (the Bandit is EFI).

I do think that your overall mileage will rely MOSTLY on your particualr riding style, but I'd be pretty happy with that kind of mileage, actually. I'd say that as an overall average, I probably hit right about 29 to 31 MPG. Without changing your driving style, there is VERY little to do to improve your mileage, performance options will usually hurt it overall.
