What should be my first bike?????

i am 19 years old and i dont know want kind of bike i should get. im about 5'8 and 285 im a big dude. so what bike should i go with..i really want a gsxr 750 but the guy at the bike dealership said my shoulders are to broad for the bike he recomended a zzr600. but i dont want to look like a fat *** rollin down the street..i need a decent sized bike. i would appreciate the opinions and suggestions. by the way i already kno i neeed to loose weight!!! thanks

go get a ninja 650 or an SV 650.... the 600cc sport bikes will land you in the morgue...or worse...and what ever you decide take the safety class....

i would go with the polaris victory

You are falling into the same deadly trap that most beginners fall into, You need a bike that will fit your current riding skills.

Did you take the MSF course? More than likely you have not because if you did then you would know that a GSXR far exceeds you riding skill.

A ZZR 600 would be a great place to start, its an everything bike that is capable of almost everything, its horsepower will get you out of any situation and keep you satsified.

I have never seen a 5'8" 285lb rider get into trouble out there but I have seen numerous "Unskilled" riders with a far too powerful bike get into much trouble.

Think safety (MSF) and think about a good helmet as well as proper riding gear Gloves, boots and a good jacket with body armor.

Good Luck

You might be a little uncomfortable on a sportbike.
Start out with a cruiser and switch models when you slim down.
Don't worry what others think of you.
Just ride and have fun!
Go to some shops and sit on the bikes.
You don't have to buy one.
Figure out what fits and shop around for a bargain.

Well it depends to your driving capability, money and weight. It's ok even if you're fat. What matters is that if the bike you ride comforts you and meets your high expectations.

I know the perfect bike for you, the Suzuki Katana man, those things are nice. They are a sport bike and if you get one used you can get em cheap!

Regarding the weight, on bikes, I think weight is a good thing and I am not just saying that. I try to put as much weight on my bike as possible. I'll have a tank bag and gear etc.. and even a quart of oil in the tank bag. See when you ride freeways weight is good because it keeps you planted on the bike but if the bike is too light you'll hate life as it blows all over the damn place.

The Suzuki Katana photos is below and tell me,...that is one hot bike don't ya think? Its a sport bike but the way you sit on it you don't have to be fully laid down on it and on the freeway its like riding a lamborghini it stays put on the road.

The zzr600 is light and I would not get a bike that light if riding freeways as it blows all over the place but for streets mostly its great. A good rule of thumb is this..

Rule #1
If you are going to ride streets 95% of the time then get a light bike like 300-380lbs

Rule #2
If you are going to ride streets like 80% of the time and 20% of the time freeways then definately get a bike that is 400-500+lbs like the Katana by suzuki.

looks is one thing but how is going to look if your busting your @$$$ with your brand new bike getting jacked as its sliding down the road. If I were you I would get a smaller used bike first. That way if you lay it down a few times no harm done. One thing I was told when I was a kid and learned first hand is that it's a machine it will only do what you tell it to unless broke, and respect the bike and your limitations. Bikes are fun and cool but as soon as you lose that respect for the bike and you own limitations you get hurt. Get a smaller one bro, then sell it when your ready to upgrade no reason to buy a brand new bike you don't want just cause some jerkoff is trying to make his quota.

Get A bike you like the looks of .....and A bike you feel comfortable on .......and have fun

i would look into getting a yamaha R6 for a first bike...its a great bike and I also started on it myself but have now moved up to a R1. I'm 6'3 240lbs and i never had a problem with power with this bike..It's just enough power to have fun but also be safe for a new rider.
