CBR 600 or DR-Z 400sm?

Using for short commute in the country, I always wanted a street bike, but everyone says that the tendency is there to push your limits. Can't decide which is right for me. I ride trail bikes, so I have some experience on bikes.

DR-Z 400sm really isn't a sport bike and the cops might mistake it for a dirt bike and pull you over.

honestly, I would go with the CBR 600, join a sport bike club and have fun.

CBR 600 for sure.

Iv'e never heard anyone complain " I've got too much horsepower".

Or, "Damit, my bike is just too fast".

the drz is the better choice for your first street bike.

i reckon i'd take the cbr cause i like the speed factor.
doesn't matter what you get, if you come off you probably ain't gonna live.

go for the drz.....cant go off road on the cbr......

Not exactly any more of a beginner bike than the CBR.

the cbr is heavy and fast.. it would take atleast a few days to get used to it.. but once u get used to it and feel every movement on the bike u'll never regret taking it...


my advise take the cbr

short country rides, take the supermoto. It weighs less, and you don't have to bend over to ride the thing. There is a huge aftermarket for the DRZ, and it is a bombproof motor, you can ride the thing for ever with oil changes.

The sumos handle great!!! Of course it wont pull on the straights like the chrotch rocket, but WILL out handle it. On the mountain roads, I have no problems running with the sport bikes on my '94 KLX 650, yeah they pull away on the straights but hit a corner and I'm all over them.

The 400SM isn't something you would really take offroad, the suspension is stiffer than a normal dirtbike, plus it has the 17" front wheel and larger brakes. Go test ride both and see what you like. I've ridden a CBR1000, it was fun when you twisted the throttle, but my butt got tired of the thin seat and my back got tired of being bent over and I was on the thing for 30 min. I know why sport bikes are so fast: so you can hurry and get to where your headed because they are uncomfortable :)
