Street bike question....?

im 17 1/2 and i was wondering how old do u have to be in california to get ur motorcycle lisence? and how nuch does it cost?

unless they changed the rules, it was 16 and if you took a motorcycle training course, the licence fee was waived. I think i paid 50 bucks for the traing course and we used there bikes in case we wrecked. WELL WORTH IT !

Dunno cos I live in Somerset, England.
Good luck with it though, once your hooked, you can have a lifetime of enjoyment on a motorbike.

This is a question that you can search on-line for the California DMV.

Good luck! :-)

Please take MC training courses. This will help speed up your mastery of the needed skills for cycle riding and it will help with insurance. Which, BTW, will be quit expensive. Do you have any off road cycling experience? My off road riding skills that I acquired a long time ago continue to help keep me out of harm way.
Good Luck!!

16 with parent or gaurdians signature you will have to go thru the MSF riders course as well, if you have renewed or have just recieved your drivers license within the past 12 months you will only have to take a written test for motorcycles to get your permit otherwise you have to take both a general written as well as the motorcycle written test to get the motorcycle permit the test fees for DMV will be around $26.00 dollars the MSF riders course will cost $235.00

The first two citations below are from the DMV website, the last is from the MSF website. So you can get your MC license at 17 1/2 but must take the MSF Basic Rider Course but you get a discount because you are less than 21. The cost for the BRC $150 and the license $27.

How to Obtain a California Motorcycle Operator License
To get your motorcycle operator license in California, there are three different licensing processes, depending on your age 鈥?younger than 18; 18 to 20; age 21 and older.
Younger than 18
Step 1: You must successfully complete a driver鈥檚 education and driver鈥檚 training program if you are between the ages of 15陆 and 17陆. You may begin with Step 2 if you have a Class C automotive driver鈥檚 license, have completed driver鈥檚 education and training, or are older than 17陆. Step 2: You must successfully complete the CHP-approved Basic RiderCourse offered by the California Motorcyclist Safety Program. Before you enroll in the Basic RiderCourse, check to make sure you have done one of the following: 1) successfully completed a classroom driver鈥檚 education program;
2) obtained a motorcycle or motor vehicle instruction permit; 3) hold a valid Class C automotive driver鈥檚 license. To enroll in the Basic RiderCourse call toll-free, 877.RIDE.411. Upon successful completion of the Basic RiderCourse, you will be given a Certificate of Completion of Motorcycle Training (DL 389).

Pay the $27 application fee when you apply for any new or change of class permit or license. It will not be returned. The fee is good for 12 months and allows you to take the appropriate law test(s) three times, if needed, during that period. The fee pays for both the instruction permit and driver license, if you qualify for both within the 12-month period. If the application expires, you must resubmit documents, repay the application fee, and retake the required tests.

What is the cost of the course?
The cost of the CMSP Basic Course will be no more than $250.00 for riders who are 21 years old and older and $150 for under 21 years old. Please be aware that tuition for the Basic RiderCourse does not include DMV fees associated with obtaining your motorcycle license.
