Ok my family and I went to the bike shop and looked around. I was really stuck on a gsx r600, I KNOW I KNOW! some of you guys are gonna say a 250 or a 500 but they just look so stupid! and is there really that much of a difference? Dont get me wrong, i do care about my life n all, but i just cant get with those bikes, plus the boyz in the bike shop said if i get 1 of those n they see me n the street they were gonna kick my bike over! but anyways i also looked around at the cbr600 and the yamaha r6...Now as much as i LOVE suzuki's the honda and the yamaha just felt better, the r6 is sooooo much lighter! But what do u guys think what should i go with!?!?

Haybusa or the zx14r are equally as good for learning on...come on, be realistic, a fast bike doesn't make you a good rider. Sure, a 250 or 500 might look "stupid", but not as stupid as you when you are being scrapped off the pavement because you wanted super sport bike for your first bike. The cost of insurance for a new rider on a super sport will cost you as much as the bike. Go with a 250 or 500, after a year or 2 you can move to the super sport.

go with what you like best or you wont be happy. goodluck!

TRUST ME...I would buy a beater bike. Something you can lay down and learn on. The bike should be 250cc and light. For example Honda Interceptor, Kawasaki Ninja, Buell Blaster...etc

See the product films and historical background at provided source. Pay attention to the dual-purpose quality, all-weather
rides, and the extra carry options. If lacking in the old school
know-how consider joining the German historical portion on a
different 650 or thereabouts motorcycle that is more friendly
to my reader. Others ladies have.
Postscriptum - See military product films to get an idea how this machine was designed to chase all the bike shop boyz.

You're tall enough that you don't need a cruiser, but you're so light that you'll feel better on a smaller, lighter bike until you get the hang of using your body to help you.

I agree with the notion of getting an older bike to learn on. One of the better bikes I ever rode is a Suzi GS750. They came in 850 and one-liter displacements. A bit heavy, but very solid, bullet-proof bearings. Three disc brakes, electric and kick-start, and plenty fast. You won't be going 180 mph for awhile, so don't worry about top end. Anything that's 3/4 of a liter will go faster than you need to go.

BTW, don't those schools provide a bike to take the course on? If so, ride theirs and then decide what's better for you. Ignore the trolls who threaten to kick your bike over. They're just afraid their minuscule manhood will wither in the presence of a real female rider. Ride safe!

Just ride me. I dont complain and i promise i feel just right!!!!

The Yamaha FZ6 has the same engine as the R6
The FZ6 is only 10 mph slower than the R6
The insurance rates will be 50% less on the FZ6
The FZ6 offers a much more comfortable upright seating postion and the engine is tuned so you don't have to rev it high for normal highway speeds.

if you have no experience at all you should buy a 500-1000 $ beater and get some experience you'll be able to sell for about no loss. if you drop a new bike that would suck, and if you don't ride now you will probably drop it, if you already ride and feel comfortable on a 600 then you're ready for one. i ride a honda cause they last forever, but they're all sweet bikes. good luck and be careful

just buy what you want. there is a very big difference
between the bikes you mentioned. you will be amazed
at the power of any sport bike.

My personal rule:
Never ride a bike you cant pick up if its on its side.

MSF classes usually teach you on 175-250 cc bikes.

I dont like riding anything smaller than a 350 for over 45 minutes.
Smaller bikes rev faster with more gut shaking vibration.

I would suggest that you start with something around 400cc
and upgrade later.

Good luck on your class and keep the rubber side down !

Sorry, you are not getting an answer from one of the guys. How about from a woman that rides? Take the course first. If you are going to be riding on the highways, you should get yourself a bike with more meat. A 250cc is not meant for long periods at 65 mph. The difference in weight will be inconsequential between a 250 and a 650.

One of my best friends (a woman) has a 650 Yamaha and is forever telling me I'm out of my mind for preferring my Harley to it. She, too, has been riding over 20 years. Her bike handles like a dream. She is about 5'6' with average leg length. I would NOT suggest going for a bike much bigger than a 650 for a first bike, though. Trying to control the power of a really big bike is not what you need at this time. A 650 can be a bike that lasts you. You'll be able to ride with the big bikes, and no one in their right mind will tease you about it.

You are absolutely right in looking for a bike that feels good. It has to have the right balance for YOU. If the center of gravity is low, the weight becomes less of an issue. You'll also want to adjust the handlebars back so that you can reach easily. This is why my Softail Deuce became MINE. She fit me, but I had to replace the bars for an extra 1.5 inch of reach. I've also got the mileage under my butt for a big bike, though. Make sure your new bike has engine guards for when you drop it. This is not a slam against you. It's one of those things that happens when you don't have enough speed to keep the bike upright - like when you are pushing it backwards out of your garage. It's easier to replace chrome than paint or legs.

First, it would be offensive to assume you don't have the maturity and skill level to handle something more than a 250cc. Most people, after successfully completing a MSF course could go right into riding a 600cc bike and that really all depends if you can afford to buy it and if the bike looks and feels comfortable to you, assuming you will at least go to different dealers to sit on the bikes you are interested in.
If you think you need to go with a 250cc or 500cc for whatever reason, check out the new 2008 line of Kawasaki Ninjas as they have a more aggressive design compared to other 250cc models. Check out the Ninja 650R also.

The MSF class I checked out supplied a 250 to take class. Get the cheapest beater for the class. Tell the boys their bikes will tip over as easy as yours.

I learned to ride on a Gixxer 1000 and that's all its been ever since, my advice would be buy a bike that feels comfortable and read the owner's manual. when i first started riding i would only go out late at night on weekdays and find large parking lots to practice. i would rides in a circle to the left then right and try to stop with only the back brakes then only front then both and within 8 months I was rocking 3 mile wheelies. But what people didnt know is I had already ridden thousands of miles on my bike. I guess the moral is you can ride the hell out of any bike with practice. check out Jessica Maine she'll inspire you

take the honda if you plan on wheeling. ive seen a few gixxers flip when shifting gears up on one. the r is another good chioce to and seems to have a little more power then the honda, which could be bad if your just learning
