Is it bad pollution wise to ride your bicycle next to the street? |
And don't you inhale just as bad pullutants in the car.. cause where do you think that air comes from? So would riding your bike next to a busy rode be extremely damaging to your health? It may be damaging to your health but you are helping the environment by not putting out pollutants into the air. And with less polutants in the air you are benefiting your health. So, you benefit the environment and in the end benefit your own health. Where an airaetor or filtration mask over your nose and mouth. Japanese been doing it for years and that is just walking in or near traffic. Considering that in most cases it is illegal to ride your bike on the sidewalk, where else are you going to ride your bike, besides next to or on a busy street? I've ridden for years and I also commuted on a bike for a long time...the only time the exhaust fumes every bothered me was when all traffic was stopped at a light. yes . when I was in college [ 1972 ] I did my biology paper on lead levels in ground soil . earth worms taken from the side of the road had a much higher lead level the those that were not near the hiways . lead was used in gasoline back then to lubricate the valves of an engine , the air you breath when riding along side of road is partly made up of the exhaust from cars ect. Modern vehicles produce far less pollutants than cars of 20 or more years ago. In some heavily polluted areas such as So Cal, the exhaust from the tailpipe of many vehicles is actually CLEANER than the air being drawn into the engine in the first place. Since it's illegal to ride on the sidewalk you really have no choice anyway. And the couple extra feet won't make any difference anyway. |
