How can i make a regular dirt bike street legal without licensing it? You can add as many turn signals, headlights, tail lights, horns and mirrors that you want, but it will not be street legal until it is registered and licensed. Any motor 50cc's and under is street legal, as long as it has tail lights, turn signals and a headlight. So just make sure your bikes got the stuff I mentioned and your good to go! Hope this helped. By "regular dirt bike" I assume your talking about a 125, 250 or larger motorcycle. Laws vary from state to state. Your local DMV or DPS will have information on what equipment is required to make the bike street legal. Some states such as California make this extremely difficult, especially if you have a 2-stroke dirt bike. Street bikes today not only comply because of lights, mirrors, signals and a horn - they also comply by having the right smog equipment, such as air injection, evaporative controls and a carb/ECU combination which minimizes emissions. Another consideration is the need for a battery. Many dirt bikes have no batteries, and many states require that a headlight and taillight function when the engine is off. I've converted several bikes in the past for street-legal operation, including a DKW 125 and a Honda XR200 and XR500. It can be done, but check with your local DMV first so you don't waste a lot of time, effort and money for nothing. |
