New sport bike for beginner? Ninja 250R? |
Hi all. I'm seriously looking into getting a motorcycle. I have some experience with dirt bikes from years back, but never a street bike. I'm considering a Ninja 250R, but before I start seriously looking for a bike, I need to know the steps to getting a license. I don't have any friends who ride, so I may have to opt for lessons or a riding school. Do you need a bike before you can get the license, or do schools cover all of that? I don't really know all the steps involved at this point in time. From where I am now, what do I have to do to get a license, how much should I expect to spend, and is a 250R a good starter bike? If it makes any difference, i'm 5'11" and about 165lbs. Thank you for your answers. 250R was my first starter bike, its a great choice. You will really learn to row through the gears on that bike, its cheap, and WHEN you lay it down, its less expensive to fix than a 600/750/1000 cc sportbike. Really the only drawback to that bike is you will grow out of it within a year, once you feel comfortable riding. For the price, you can't beat it. As for the licenses, you do need a bike to get the license because you will have to take the road test on a bike. as far as the rules go, i don't know what state you are in so i can't say. The Ninja is a great choice. If availible check out the Honda CBR125. Though smaller in displacement it is very nimble light. It will be cheaper to insure than a 250 too. the local community college near me had bikes to ride during the safty class so that took the place having to take a road test to get my licence. |
