Drz400sm as a beginer bike? |
im thinking about geting a street bike, but the beginer street bikes are kinda boring, i have some dirt bike experiance (79 yz 250 two stroke) so i think the sm would be a good starter street bike for me, what do you think? 650 is a better street bike It gets two thumbs up as a great starter bike from me. It's got plenty of attitude, but it's also predictable and controlable enough for a beginning rider to learn. If you've ever read Proficient Motorcycling, David Hough has some interesting tales about how his 350 cc dual sport - even smaller - could keep up with decent sized sport bikes on a winding road. Just be sure you're tall enough to put both feet on the ground while sitting on the saddle. That's the one drawback this sort of bike has for beginners. I think it has the possibility of being a fantastic beginner bike, if you're in the right location. If you're in or close to a big city, and you don't need to run at highway speeds for long periods of time, you'll love it. You'll have a high seat height to see over cars, long-travel suspension to deal with potholes, light weight, and a peppy, but not overpowered, motor. Plenty of aftermarket stuff available for the DR-Zs, too. If you're in a more rural area, and you plan on driving at 65-75 mph for long periods of time to get anywhere, there are better choices. Lack of wind protection and relatively short gearing will get pretty old, pretty quick. Good luck, and remember to wear your gear, too. |
