Street bikes for sale under 5000? |
im a woman and looking to buy a bike never had one before so please fill me in If you are just learning to ride, get something small. You can always sell it and buy something bigger later. A lot of people buy something they can't handle, then they get put off with riding. I like the Honda Rebel 250--comes in black or white and runs close to 3000 bucks. Take the MSF course, the skills you learn may save your life. Most I've seen have bikes for the students, so you can get a good idea of what you will want for a bike before you spend any money. I wouldn't buy a new bike the first one, you will probably drop it a few times until you get comfortable. There are plenty of used Rebels out there for sale much cheaper than the cost of a new one since they are great learner bikes but are quickly outgrown. Your physical size has a lot to do with choice of bikes, as well as personal taste. Starting on a used Rebel is fine, but if you want something bigger I would suggest the Kawasaki Vulcan 500. The Vulcan is not much bigger than the Honda, but you won't outgrow it nearly as soon. Get the skills first, then you will be able to make an informed decision about the bike. Start with riding lessons, a local motorcycle dealer can help you their. Once you learn how to ride and get licensed to ride then begin your quest. Your local dealer is a good place to start, most sell used bikes and are very careful with new riders in choosing the correct bike. As a new rider, plan on getting a "beginner" bike, after your skills improve and you are sure you enjoy riding then you can always get a bigger and/ or newer motorcycle. An older bike well cared for will hold it's value better then a new bike that has been laid down or abused. Start here for info: http://www.ama-cycle.org/ Here's a good place to look and see what $5,000.00 will buy: http://www.cycletrader.com/ Remember! 1. Lessons 2. License 3. Buy bike What great advice. I ditto everything said here. The Rebel is a great beginner bike (many of the schools use them). Take a rider safety course first (also try msf-usa.org for a class near you). Then get your license. Then buy a starter bike. I would also advise you to get a used bike first. You can probably get one for under $2gs, and it won't be such a pain if you drop it sometime during the learning curve. Have a blast! Be safe! Motorcycling is a wonderful hobby. You will be glad you got started off on the right path. 30 years in the saddle Here's a perfect one for you. Some might disagree that a Magna is a good starter bike, but I wish it had been MY first! I started with a 600 and I was bored in no time. |
