Going from 230cc dirtbike to '07 HOnda CBR600R. Too much bike?

I've been riding my Honda CRF230F (my first dirtbike) for about a year now. I feel completely comfortable on it, and can ride just about anywhere without a problem.

I'm planning on taking the MSF course this fall, getting my liscence, and then getting a street bike in the spring. For complete newbies (never been on a bike with an engine...), the common suggestions are 250-500 Ninjas and Suzuki GS500F's, but in light of my experience in the dirt, would a new ('07) Honda CBR600RR be too much bike for me? I understand that it's exponentially faster than my tame 230cc trailbike, but I don't ride like a maniac, and I try to keep reasonable speeds at all times.

Sounds good. 230cc is enough bike to really get hurt on, so if you've mastered that, and you are a responsible motorcyclist, 600cc ought not be too big. Go for it. Hey, I knew a guy that practiced on a 49.9cc motobecane. When he mastered that moped, I think he bought a 750 crotch rocket. Laid it down twice the first week. What a dope. 230-600cc transfer should be OK though
CBR are pretty fast for that size if your not used to it idk about in your state your your insurance but here if the bike is under a 600 then its less to pay for. and it will cost a good bit since its your first. hit me up with the best answer man plz!!
the ninja 250 is a good beginner bike, but you will just have to upgrade later. its probably like your dirtbike kinda. the cbr is a very nice bike, but it is FAST and its meant to be ridin fast. if you play it safe and ride with caution it should be fine. dont try to do things your not comfortable with doing. a 600 is pretty much your smallest bike in that kind of bike. every company makes a 600. its most of the time the smallest they have, with the exception of a few like the gsx and ninja.
those crotch rockets have 2 uses. killing yourself or loosing your license. just be care full they get up speed real fast. they will not handle like the dirt bike. any gravel or sand on the road could cause you to loose control. keep this in mind. also look out for cars. the best thing i could recommend is a riding coarse. good luck
if you already know how to ride i would say skip the ninja 250 and get the 500. it will also be less on your insurance than the 600. ride safe and good luck
A CBR600RR will be an OK starter street bike for you.
You already know how to ride.
You'll get bored of a 250 ninja in a couple of weeks.
The 500 will be satisfactory, but you're gonna want more speed.
You don't have to ride the CBR wide open through every gear.
Shift at 1/2 the RPM range and you have a CBR300.
As long as you control the bike and not let it control you, you'll be fine.
