Can I update my bike? |
I just bought a 1983 Honda VF 750 F. I bought it really cheap and it needs some work done. I want it to be my pet project and fix it up. It has the older body style but it is a street bike. I was wondering if I could put some newer body fairing on it to make it look more modern or should I just buy the old fairing. I would appreciate the response, thanks. I gave no_bloody a thumbs up. I disagree with his assessment of its value as a collectors piece though. The 750's are quite a bit more rare than even stated already. They are easily one of the top 10 most collectible bikes ever produced. Especially considering it is not yet considered vintage. Do not alter this motorcycle. Sell it and buy an older Suzuki Katana. You can cut the Katana up, and feel no guilt. They come in choice of 600, 750, and 1100cc. Older ones are very affordable, and you get away from the high maintenance, rather techie, liquid cooled power train on the Honda. Although the VF750 was a pure sport entry for its day, the Katana, even the 600, will outperform it on all counts, and retains the comfort associated with the more mellow VF line as a sport bike. That bike would after all, find itself as Honda's touring entry for that displacement at the end of its life. These are quite a special bike - if it doesn't have classic status and value now then it probably will do before too long - 24 years later the VFR800 is a direct descendant of your bike... I know a lot of these were sold in the USA as 700cc (Harley got the US Govt to impose tarrifs on bikes over 700cc - as though anyone who wanted a modern bike would buy a harley instead, if only they were a bit closer on price ?), so the proper 750s are probably quite a bit rarer as a result. Therefore, whatever you do make sure you can easily get it as close to original as possible. Hey lady, check this out if you have a fairing issue. http://www.airtech-streamlining.com/hond... hope this helps. :) |
