Buying first bike and having troubles....? |
I've been riding dirtbikes all my life and want to start riding street bikes. i want to start somewhere around a 600. i'm looking at more of a rocket or naked style but i live in minnesota and only have about 1700 to spend because i'm a poor college student. So does anyone know a good place to look in minnesota and any recommendations on specific bikes? But a used standard bike. Riding dirt is way different from riding on a street. I've been riding for over 20 years, almost dumped it yesterday, damn old lady. She cut a left turn right in front of me and then stopped in the middle of my lane when she finally saw me. Had to swerve left. Experience made all the difference. Rockets are great bikes if your goal is to go fast and die young! Start off with a used Yamaha or Honda. Dress smart -- denim, leathers and helmet. Ride smart. i dunno about a great bike for you, but I would recommend a full face helmet to match your new bike. I was only wearing an open-faced helmet when I hit a deer. If I had been wearing a full face helmet, I would look a lot better today! Be Careful! My advice to you as a long time motorcyclist is to stay on a Enduro. I've had more problems and close calls on street bikes in suburban areas then I care to count, and it's taken the fun out of riding...I grew up on dirt bikes, and switched to street bikes at about 17, and it was great in rural areas, but when I began riding in populated areas, people became oblivious to me, not to mention the oil slicks in almost every intersection, which during the rain will tear you apart before you even know what happen, I'm a very good rider, and riding in traffic with cars is challenging! The best website for any used bikes in all of the states, is to go to: www.lets-ride.com. Just go to the classified section for the bike, size and manufactuer that you might be interested in. This site not only has used bikes by every manufacturer, but also the scheduled events in your state, that you might like to take part in. The site is updated almost daily. ALLOT DEPENDS ON WHAT KIND OF RIDING YOU PLAN ON DOING & HOW FAR YOUR WANTING TO GO. DO YOU WANT TO STAY AROUND TOWN AND GO LONG DISTANCE ONCE IN A WHILE?? ALSO, DO YOU PLAN TO HAVE SOMEONE WITH YOU?? How about a Buell Blast, 500 cc. I used one should be in your price range. |
