Are bikes street legal in ur state ? |
Are bikes street legal in ur state ? There are federal laws about bicycles, and federal laws always supercede state laws. The federal law declares the bicycle as a vehicle. However, in most states wherever there is a bike lane nearby, the cyclist must use the bike lane and cannot use the road except when turning left. When turning left, the bicycle does not need to share a protected turn lane. However, when turning left from a non-dedicated lane, don't do it directly in front of cars because they will not stop. The new magnetic left turn sensors are making it impossible to turn left on major roads--walking the bike across like a pedestrian remains an option, although steel bikes with steel wheels can work the sensor. Back in style? I hope not. This does not conflict the federal law, and so it is enforcable with a ticket if you fail to use the bike lane. The bicycle is governed by similar laws to a moped. However, the bicycle is the only vehicle that may take to the sidewalk as long as you "feel endangered by the car traffic." Otherwise, sidewalk riding is not legal. Children may always ride on the sidewalk. In fact, anyone can, as long as you insist that you felt endangered by the cars. In fact endangerment laws apply in reverse, making the bike illegal to use on-road during thick, panicky, rush hour traffic on roads that are rated 40 mph and higher through a city. You know, those really insane five or six roads that everybody uses at once? Those. Not legal--considered self-harm. If there's no bike lane, the cyclist is required to take the sidewalk during the most dangerous traffic at rush hour if the road fills up to bumper-to bumper nearly-stuck traffic or lots of crazy driving on a very full road. Of course we always take the neighborhood streets anyway, so it is just not a problem. No. That is why is California has bike lanes. The only time a bike should be in the street is when it is in the bike lane, at a stoplight, waiting for the signal to turn green -or- The person on the bike is attempting to turn left on the adjacent street, and into the bike lane. Other than that, No. Bicyclists do have to follow many rules of the road that other motor vehicles have to as well. in ohio bikes dont have motors so they are considered pedestrians. they are allowed to bike in the street if there is no bike lane, and cars are supposed to yeild to them. Ohio has already been answered above. However, it drives me crazy because cars do not always yield to bikes. Just a few weeks ago a car plowed into a group of bikers and killed the lead two. The guy was drunk!! In Florida bikes have the same rights as a car,we have bike lanes but we can use any lane to turn where ever we want .(just be wise and keep of the High speed roads while turning left). |
