Does Washington D.C. allow modifications to make dirt bikes street legal? |
What age do you have to be to ride one I'm sure you could do that, but most dirtbikes aren't setup to be easily converted to street. For one thing you'd have to upgrade the battery, add headlight, turn signals front/rear, brake light and wiring for all that, then change to a dirt/street tire and add a tag holder and reflectors to make it street legal. I'm not sure how much all that would cost, but likely more then $500. You might want to call an inspection station to see what they require to pass a motorcycle as street legal, but I know you need all that I mentioned. The legal driving age is still 16 and you will need a motorcycle license, tags, insurance just like a car. The biggest issue in making a dirt bike legal is the MSO/Title. If it says, "for off-highway use only" then you're not going to make it legal no matter what you do to it. This is the case for most dirt bikes, with the exception of some of the European models that come into the US, like KTM and Husquavarna. If you don't have an MSO then you're still out of luck.
