Are pocket bikes street legal in spartanburg south carolina? |
Are pocket bikes street legal in spartanburg south carolina? Well, I would not be so quick to say that the first three are "completely" wrong. And #4 does have a point that, "there are [a few] pocket bikes that can be registered". The South Carolina Code of Laws, Title 56, Chapter 2, section 100, subdivision (C) provides that a low speed vehicle must meet the equipment requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 500 (49 CFR 571.500) at all times when operated on any highway. http://www.scstatehouse.net/code/t56c002... Chapter 5 of the same title cited as the "Uniform Act Regulating Traffic on Highways", section 150 provides that Every motorcycle, including every motor scooter, with a motor which produces not to exceed five horsepower is a "motor-driven cycle". http://www.scstatehouse.net/code/t56c005... The only place I find an exact reference to pocket bikes is an Title 51, Chapter 3 referring to State Parks, section 145, subdivision (H), paragraph (1). In part this provides that minibikes shall not be allowed on park roads, horse trails, hiking trails, etc. http://www.scstatehouse.net/code/t51c003... Source(s): Personal knowledge, information, and belief. http://www.scstatehouse.net/code/statmas... Since they can not be registered for street use, and given a license plate, no, they are not. No law no, they can't be registered. they have no title. if you still don't believe this, ride one by a police officer, see if he gives you a ticket for riding an unlicensed vehicle on a public road. depends, dont listen to the others who replied!! they are completely wrong!! there are pocket bikes that can be registered! however you cant really get a slower pocket bike registered (like below 70cc) (the 70cc is a way of expressing size of piston sorta so bigger the CC's the faster), so if you buy a 110cc pocket bike and are old enough and the bike meets regulations in your state and able to exceed certain speeds (not too slow but not too fast). good example of a pocketbike that maybe can get registered is the X18. best bang for your buck!! |
