Is it okay to ride my bike on the sidewalk?

I just got a bike and I don't feel really comfortable riding in the street. and I haven't seen a bike lane in my town.
Is it okay to ride on the sidewalk?

It depends on the traffic on the sidewalk. If it's crowded than no. If it's empty (and there are no laws against it) then go ahead. Bicycles are vehicles and entitled to use the road just ride with traffic and you should be ok for the most part. It's scary at first because you don't feel you belong there and some motorists don't know the laws but you'll get the hang of it eventually. Until then do what is safest for you.
As long as your carfeul with the people i dont see why riding on the sidewalk is a problem...its better than in the street of course...
The law probably varies depending on what state you live in.
You pretty much answered your own question... It's called a "sideWALK" not a "sideRIDE"... do the right thing and ride in the street where you belong... geez...
yes so u dont get ran over
exsperens
i am going to assume you are still fairly young, so YES.
just take it slow and easy, be prepared to stop and politely warn pedestrians of your prescence.

Try finding some quiet streets to practice on to build your cinfidence.
