Bike Choices? |
I'm looking to buy a bike, middle of the line, good for city terrain (sidewalks, streets, relatively small hills, and some areas with no sidewalks). I'm a girl, about 5'6. I've narrowed it down to two and would like some feedback if anyone knows about these bikes: Raleigh Mojave 2.0 and Raleigh Venture. If you don't know anything about one of those two bikes DON'T RESPOND, it isn't helpful! Those are my options, which one should I choose? Hey, Its hard - but I'll only speak of these 2 bikes... Personally I would go with the Mojave 2.0 of those two bikes. Mojave 2.0 has: - SR suspension fork, as opposed to solid fork - More gears - crank has 3 chainrings as opposed to one meaning it is a 21 speed instead of a 7 speed - superior rear derailler - venture is lowest end derailler that Shimano makes. Derailler is part of your shifting and you want more reliable shifting. - Tektro brakes instead of no-name alloy brakes - Alex Rims instead of no-name alloy rims. - Mojave has rapidfire shifters (buttons) and Venture has grip shifters. this is personal preference. In terms of spec's the Mojave 2.0 is a better bike, but I would test ride them both anyways... good luck EDIT*** Someone else suggested the Venture for city use. I agree to some extent - it is a simple bike, with less to worry about (no front shifting). The weight difference will be fairly minimal though, and the suspension fork on the mojave only has 63mm of travel (made for little bumps - nothing major). As for biking up hills, the Mojave gives you a greater gear range to use on hills than the Venture. Sooooo... if you want simplicity with comfort for paved roads and trails, the Venture may be better. If you want versatility and higher quality parts then the Mojave 2 is the way to go. Source(s): work in a bike shop If all your riding will be done in the city, go with the Venture. You really don't need any suspension and it will be lighter and easier to pedal up hills. |
