What makes a motorcycle illegal in the U.S.? |
I realize that there are many modifications that can be made to motorcycles for performance and handling, but how much can be done while keeping the bike street legal? What differentiates legal street bikes from non-street legal MotoGP bikes, and other performance racing motorcycles? Emission standards for European and non US bikes are different...I do know that European bikes are non registerable in the US because of this..US bikes are allowed here though in Europe. Apart from that,if it is a US bike to begin with the rest varies from state to state..check with your local state Motor vehicle offices and websites. depends on state inspection yep. depends on the state because i made my drag bike legal in missouri Fed legal? or State legal? There are differences. Your bike might not pass my state inspection, mine may pass yours. Fed law- if I change my mufflers with ones that exceed 80db (for my 2006 Harley) it's illegal. If I operate it that way, it's illegal. When we talk about breaking laws, we need to know which ones we are talking about. Never got a ticket from a Fed. Call your local State Inspection Station, and they usually have a free booklet that will tell you what the requirements are that will allow your bike to pass inspection. As long as you meet those requirements, anything else you do to the bike will be legal. no lights |
