What should i buy? touring, cruser, or sport? |
this past weekend I took A class called TEAM OREGON and I now have my license to ride a street bike. my only question now is what type to buy. during the class I was placed on a dual purpose bike (I think) with the breaks, clutch and foot rests below me and I found it a pain to deal with the clutch in that position. because of that I figures I will not like a sport bike. touring bikes look huge and just too big so that leaves cursers. they look more comfortable and I think I would like the position of the break and clutch in front of me rather than under me. any how you have my input, I now need your impute. what would be best for a 6 foot (most of my height is from my legs) 21 year old guy, who will be riding from college, to work, to home and often riding 90+ miles in one day every month(all though when I see the doc I will likely take my truck not the bike). I like big cruisers, but I ride about 2,000 miles a month. I just find them more comfortable for long hauls and everyday use. questn arises what u luv.....speed or just hanging around.....n what type of built u have I have a sport bike and I know what you mean, but I just wouldn't be able to give it up, plus touring and even some cruisers are just to big. You'll need to actually try them each out. I love crusers. They are comfortable on the highway and handle well. They also are great for running down your favorite twisty road. Tourers are most def. comfortable but to me you just don't get that road feel and I hate not being able to go peg to peg on the ramps. Sports bikes, well for sport not comfort. I would seriously consider something like the Honda Shadow (suzuki and Kaw make similar bikes). They are good all around bikes for a beginner and still have some size to them. Ride that for a year or so until you get more comfortable and more experienced, then go get whatever you want...My 21 year old son rides a Kawasaki Vulkin 800. Great bike for him and he is about your size 30+ years of riding 15+ years as an instructor It sounds as if you have answered your own question. Kaw has a 900 with belt drive out. One model is all out cruiser without all the weight. The custom is a sport model with bobbed fender and still has forward foot pegs. I believe belt drive is the best. You'll be changing tires before you tighten the belt, unlike chain drive. You want be loosing as much power to the rear wheel as a shaft drive. Yamaha has a VMax which I consider a cross between sport and cruiser. I'm six foot tall and like the way it feels. I think this bike has about 135hp and a lot smaller and lighter than any cruiser. Being 21 you probably still want to be sporty, just be safe and ride on. |
