What is the best brand or model of women's bicycles? |
I'm in the market for a new bike. I just wanted to know the best brand/make of bikes. Just for ridding on the street around town. Thanks! Slickwilly's answers were very good. Keep in mind, though, that just because you're a woman, the women's models won't necessarily fit you best. Try everything in your size, unisex/men's models included! Mine is pink also, and it makes me feel like I'm 11 again. :-) Happy biking! Bikes from Walmart / K-mart, ect are junk as far as quality goes. A low end quality mountain bike will cost maybe $200+ if you can find one on sale. One clue of a decent bike is if it has a quick release lever on both front and back wheels. No, the quick release isn't so the bike will fit in the trunk of your car. The quick release is so you can remove the wheel to change a flat when you're 20 miles away from home.Trek makes good bikes.Also GT, Giant. Best thing you can do is read as much as you can BEFORE you buy a bike.Know what you want before you buy... There are a few women-specific makes and models; because the average female has shorter legs and longer torso than an average male of the same height. But... you're not average - nobody is. Get the bike that fits you. If you're under 5'4" that could be a challenge, you may want to spend more $ and get a bike like http://www.terrybicycles.com/ carries. There are others too, ask for women-specific geometry. Good luck I'd go to a bike shop and get someone to show you a commuter bike or if you want to spend a little for a cyclecross bike. Regardless of the brand you'll want to spend at least $1000 for something that you're going to be very happy with. The big brand names are Specialized, Cannondale, Cervelo, Giant Terry has been making woman-specific bikes for the longest time but they look horrific.
