MI Cycle endorsement questions??? |
I live in Michigan and I am turning 16 next month and im getting a new cbr 600. I have been racing motocross my whole life but I am new to this street bike stuff. First how old do you have to be and what are the limitations that the licence would have being 16. Were can I take the tests? How much would the test cost. thank you very much Matthew *snipped from dmv site* You can apply for a motorcycle endorsement when you turn 16. You鈥檒l need to have at least a Level 2 Graduated Driver License (GDL) and have passed the Secretary of State鈥檚 written test and vision screening. You also need to take an approved safety course. There are a variety of safety courses available from both public and private sources. Public organizations charge $25 for a basic rider course. Fees at private organizations vary. If you鈥檙e 18 or older, you鈥檒l need to have either a valid driver license or a Temporary Instruction Permit (TIP), have passed the written test, and have successfully completed either a motorcycle skills test or a motorcycle safety course (which you鈥檒l need to take if you fail the skills test twice). A TIP is valid for 180 days and allows you to practice riding as long as there鈥檚 a licensed motorcycle operator supervising you. You can reapply for a TIP as often as you like. With a TIP, you may not ride at night or carry passengers. If you鈥檙e under 18, you鈥檒l need at least a Level 2 GDL and to have taken鈥昽r be enrolled in鈥昦 safety course. Safety Courses Michigan requires younger riders (under 18) and riders who have failed the road skills test twice to take part in a safety course before they can earn a motorcycle endorsement. there's ur answer in black n white from the official dmv site and i even added the link in the source. be careful. if u want to live to see 17, keep the hands out of the carburators. it will kill u quicker than any cage. Source(s): http://www.dmv.org/mi-michigan/motorcycl... if mi is like ohio, u will need to take and pass the msf course before the state will give u the endorsement. if i were u, after getting the endorsement, ride solo for awhile before trying to ride 2-up. google michigian dmv, and it will take u right to the dmv site. be careful out there, street is way different than dirt, and that small sport bike will be hard to spot by grannies in the buick's. In Ohio all you have to do is go get a temporary permit that is good for 6 months and you teach yourself to ride on the street and when you feel ready to take the riding test you schedule it and there is an obstickle course that you have to ride through and if you do good you get your license, I don't remember how much the license cost if anything, they just add a motorcycle endorsement to your car license. In MI you have to take a cycle riding course. The lest expensive is the MSF course. It takes a week end and costs around $30. When you pass it you just take your certificate to the Secretary of State office and get your endorsment. Call a local cycle dealer or community college to find out when the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) course in your area is. Sign up soon, they fill up fast. |
