What do the letters on motorcycles stand for?

z,g,x,r,ex? huh? I am confused, is there some secret motorcycle language that i am just not getting? oh and as far as street bikes go whats the difference in stokes? learning this motorcycle stuff is hard! Thanks for your help!

In Suzuki's naming scheme, GS is the abbreviation for engines with overhead cams. Names with an X denote a 4 valve/cylinder engine, and names with an R denote a race model bike. Therefore the GS500 has an (almost) 500cc engine with overhead cams. A GSX-R1000 is a 4 valve/cylinder race bike with overhead cams and a 1000cc engine.

And as mentioned earlier the cc stands for cubic centemeter. Which is the displacement this can range from your 50cc moped/ scooter up to you kawa zx-14 with 1400cc that tops out stock at around 190
just a model number...nothing crazy or no secret motorcycle conspiracy.....its just like cars..ya know where u might have an ES or a SS...just a model.....the difference in strokes is the motor size or the horsepower....say u have a 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1200....1200 being the largest engine with the most horsepower..meaning it is the fastest....400 being the smallest.......for example the 1200 means 1200 horsepower and the 600 means 600 horsepower.....just as an example...maybe that will help u
Z stands for zippy.
G stands for string.
X stands for rated.
R stands for ripped.
Ex stands for lawyers.

The difference in stokes is how excited you are about bikes.

Motorcycles are for hard people. We fall sometimes and need to be hard.

You are welcome for this help. Thanks for stopping by!
The letters represent variations of the original design specifications as they relate to production.

You mean Stroke of coarse...
The two-stroke cycle of an internal combustion engine differs from the more common four-stroke cycle by completing the same four processes (intake, compression, power, exhaust) in only two strokes of the piston rather than four. This is accomplished by using the space below the piston for air intake and compression, thus allowing the chamber above the piston to be used for just the power and exhaust strokes. This causes there to be a power stroke for every revolution of the crank, instead of every second revolution as in a four-stroke engine. For this reason, two-stroke engines provide high specific power.

The CC number is the Piston Displacment value for area of maximum compresson per air/fuel mixture
Engineer
No, That Josh Guy Is Partially Right. The 400, 600 And Stuff, IS NOT The Horsepower!! It's The CC's On The Bike. So Basically, It's The Size Of The Engine!! CC Is "Cubic Centimeters!!!
Butt R Fly, On different bikes, make/model, they mean different stuff. Z means Zoomie ( fast ). G means Gawd awefully fast. X means ,,,, well,,, that's for porn. R = race. EX,, well,,, that means extra porn.
