How old do I have to be to get my motorcycle license?

I'm wanting to get a bike that is street and trail. Not a very big bike, maybe a 125 or something like that.My dad said you could get a license at 14 if it was below a set of cc's or something, but he said things might have changed. So,thats why I'm asking. Also,I live in Arkansas.

Since your wanting a bike that is street legal as well as for off-road purposes, you would want an Enduro style bike. Consider something like the Yamaha TW200. That is the bike I took my test on for my license when taking the MSF Course & found it a descent bike especially to learn on. Check out www.msf-usa.org as you can take beginner rider course to help you learn to ride & they also offer dirt bike schooling. Most states is 16 for licensing on a motorcycle, however every state is different. Check with your local DMV & they can provide you all the details you need. Some states will require you to take the MSF course to get your license under the age 18. I won't go in to details of what could be done as every state is different & some require more/less than others & it does vary quite a bit, so the best choice is to check with your local DMV, they can explain licensing laws & procedures to you, along with different classes of licening depending on the CC of your bike as some states do. An example is IL have 2 classes of motorcycle licensing. Class L which is under 150cc & class M which is 150cc & over. Licensing requirements are different for both. Every state also has different requirements for helmet use and equipment needed on the bike.
16 yrs old, same as a car. you just need to pass a writen test, and a road test for the bike. very easy
I live in Missouri, to my knowledge you can get your License at 15. but it never hurts to ask the local motorcycle Safety school, (http://www.msf-usa.org). plus if you are old enough to take the course, you will walk away with your M class license as Arkansas has the same law as Missouri in the regard to the MSF courses.

Here are some resources that might be helpful to you. they were helpful to me after I bought my Kawasaki EX250.

I post these resources a lot to people asking about beginner's bikes. these resources are the noob's best friend when it comes to cycling.

Good luck on your license, I'll be keeping my eyes on the lookout.
