Biking in the streets? |
Are bicyclists allowed to ride legally in the streets like a car? Can they get in lanes to make turns and stuff like that? I'm pretty sure they can but not positive. I'm in Texas and bicylists are supposed to follow the same rules of the road that motorized vehicles do. Check with your local Police department or do a search for bicycle rules of the road to get the latest on your state and city rules. Yes there may be differences in cities too. Let's be practical though. Motorists don't always know the rules for bicyclists, or even agree with them and may not see you at times. I have been very actively riding as an adult for over 25 years and I recommend that you take a conservative approach to your riding. Try to be seen, don't annoy drivers (they can practice road rage on you and you may not live). I try to not ride where I have to cross busy intersections but when I do, I typically act more like a pedestrian and use cross-walk signals. This isn't about being right or wrong-it is self-preservation or at least avoidance of pain. I've been brushed by side mirrors on trucks, had soft drinks thrown at me by pranksters, been honked at simply to scare me and a few other things. Just be careful out there. Winning is living to ride another day. Oh sorry, I thought you said BIKINIS in the streets. I am all for it ;) Yes, that is why they have signs that say "Share the road" Bicycles must obey all traffic laws like cars. dangarous |
