GSX-1300 Hayabusa vs. ZX-14R : Take Sides? |
The new Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R is here. 1,352cc's of mid-9 second bike. That's right : 9.6's at sea level (at 140-something-MPH). And guess what? It's the new "world's fastest stock superbike". Actually, it kind of whoops its competition's ***. BUT, in top speed, both limited and un-limited, the 'Busa still takes it by a hair (literally within a mile-an-hour). I'm a huge fan of Suzuki motorcycles. I own a '99 GSX-1300R Hayabusa that's got a couple of tricks up its sleeves. And I can't wait to run a 14R on the strip or on the street. But the question is, which bike is the REAL champ? We're talking the best of performance, appearance, durability, design, modifiability, cool-factor, and so on. You know what? 'Busa rules. It does now, and it did before the ugly and over-hyped 14R. What's the word from my Yahoo brethren? Here's the word from the sistren: Busa! I'm really a Kawi girl, but I fell in love with the Busa when it first came out, and I still think it's theeee most beautiful sportbike ever made. The 14 cannot compare in that respect. A few years ago, one of the mags had drawings of the concept bike from which the 14 was formed. Now, if they had stuck with that, it would be a different story. I can't speak as to any of the other factors. I'm still cutting my teeth on a 6. But someday..... The 'Busa rules supreme. The ZX-14, while an excellent bike an awesomely fast, will never outdo the 'Busa. It's not just the outright performance, but also the versatility. You can do anything with a 'Busa. Here in England you can't get a used 'Busa for love nor money, they are all snapped up for outrageous money. The engine is bulletproof, you can make a hardcore drag bike by simply lengthening the swingarm and slapping a supercharger on it. They are also used here for making wicked kit cars. Perhaps the ZX will beat the 'Busa in a straight line, but it will never outdo it for sheer versatility. I prostrate myself at the feet of the worlds greatest bike! (arguably) *Long Live The Hayabusa!!!* The Hayabusa does it all - twisties and strip and parading the town. Yeah, the 14R has a few more claimed ponies, but it's so long, it corners like a bus. Plus it looks like some kind of insect. That's the word. My vote goes for the busa....It looks much better in my opinion than the zx14 and performance on these bikes is so close that it usually is all about the rider. The busa had a definite advantage over the zx12 in being pretty much bulletproof and we'll see what happens with the zx14. |
