How do some countries manage to keep their people absymally poor, say, like in India? |
Every country has poor people. But a country can be judged to be abysmally poor when the poverty is visible. Visible poverty can be said to exist in a country where millions of people live on the street, two people travel on one cycle, or a whole family of five travel on a motor bike, like in India. it is easy. All you need is another country to remove most of their wealth by what ever means, and their people will remain poor for hundreds of years. for instance... India at one time, produced most of the cotton fabric the world used. The UK and the US wanted to become major producers of Cotton fabric. So they both built large factories that produced cotton fabric. Britain forced India to accept something called Free Trade. Then they both shipped Cotton fabrics to India, and undercut the prices of the Indian manufacturers. These people went bankrupt. This was about the same time that Britain freed all their slaves. They needed someone to replace those slaves in the fields, as they didn't want these newly freed men working for them. So the British went to India, to those places where the former manufacturers worked, and hired thousands of unemployed fabric makers and shipped them to the Caribbean to work the fields. This removed those with the knowledge and helped the British maintain their Caribbean colonies for another 70 years or so. China produced most of the silk the world used. France and Britain wanted to produce silk. France was able to and did the same to many silk manufacturers in China. Happens all the time. So blame those who destroyed their economies. for a country like us to overstand abject,relative and absolute poverty u need to overstand the social,economic and cultural make up of these countries.I would say take a walk at night and see how many people are livin in misery in this country.We are good at coverin our failings |
