Our neighbour won't let us park in the shared drive cos it bugs him we park in front of our garage nearmyhouse |
my husband brings his work van home and does'nt like parking in front of the neighbours house so he parks up the top of the drive out of view against our house and in front of our garage the neighbour has told us its illegal to park there and it bugs him he has told us to park round the corner in another street we don't block any of his access please help we need to know if he is right as it as upset us we never stop him and his mates with there bike from using the drive even when they are on our side please help I too have a shared driveway. I emphasize with you because it really stinks! Your neighbor sounds like he's as much of a jerk as mine. Tell him tough ****! If its illegal tell him to call the police. At the worst, you'll get a ticket. At the best you'll piss him off and show him he can't push you around. It sounds like you are trying to be considerate. Its your property, don't let him push you around! Good Luck! If your neighbor says it's ii legal find out if it really is first. If it isn't get it in writing, copy it for yourself,give him a copy and request he obey the law by not bugging you about it. If he has more issues call the police and file a harassment charge. I agree with memm. Find out if it actually IS illegal. If it's not, perhaps you need to do a small amount of research on where the property lines fall. Try to find out if your district/town/province has any rules about shared driveways as well. If it's a SHARED driveway, there is no reason that your neighbor should feel he has the right to prevent you from parking in the drive, too. It belongs to both of you. Maybe you need to come up with a piece of paperwork that states this fact. And, unless by parking in front of YOUR garage you're blocking his ability to get in and out of HIS property, where you park your van on your own property shouldn't really be any of his concern. I think the most important thing is to remember to be civil... people are always more inclined toward a willingness to compromise with those who are nice to them than with those who are rude. Maybe a couple of well-placed dinners/barbeques with your neighbor will help smooth things over a little... and then you can broach the issue. Whatever you do, I hope things work out for the best.
