Is operating a motor vehicle that you don't own, without permission & without keys still a sin if it's done... |
...in order to recover your property. So, as a teenager there was a dude in my neighborhood with a penchant for steeling property. My friend believed his bike was in this guy's trunk. He wanted to bust in and take it, but not in front of the guy's house. Since I was the only one with the skill set to move this car (83 Cutlass or something) from the vicinity, I was enlisted to help. So, we drove the car down the street, busted the trunk open, and removed the stolen property. I then left the car across from the local police precinct, opened all the doors, the trunk, and the hood, and left on the hazard lights. Police found the car. Apparently, the guy had a bag of coke in his glove and when the police found the registration, they went knocking on his door. The charges didn't stick because the vehicle was "stolen" and anyone could have planted the drugs in the glove box. So, in light of the facts, did I commit a sin? The only sin was leaving a perfectly good bag of coke in the car. (how long do you think this will stay posted) Ordinarily I would never condone stealing, but in light of the facts and the fact that you helped your friend recover his property and left the car across from the police station I'd say you did the right thing. I think not, but I am not the real judge here !!! Thats God's job !!! You certainly committed a crime. Stealing one thing to get another back is still, well, stealing. Sin doesn't exist. What you committed was grand theft auto. This is completely sinless. You did a good deed more than anything. Really the Bible says an eye for an eye. So you were actually following God's way. No way this is a sin. Wouldn't it have been smarter to report the stolen bike to the Police? Then they would have found both the bike and the coke in his possession. Your friend would have recovered his property, and the guilty party would have been arrested. Instead you let another druggie/thief continue to walk the streets. |
