Why are harleys still considered the Cadillac of motorcycles? |
Not that other bikes are bad but H.D. still have thename and recognition out on the street. Cadillac is an American icon. Harley Davidson is an American icon. I love my Cadillac RoadKing. It's just an American thing !! Because its made in America.. For a long time the only bike made in America. They are really not so great though... Way expensive, they rattle all there parts loose so you have to tighten them every 2000 miles, and compared to some of the Japanese bikes out there they are high maintenance, (Oil changes, Chain tightening, brakes.... Etc., which is overall More expensive than the Japanese bikes,) and slower than them as well. Go for a Honda Star or a Yamaha.. Better bikes within the long run. With a Harley all you are doing is paying for the name. Great question! Why do people buy Cadillacs? For the recognition of status? To project a certain image? Same for Harleys. They are generally for people who need an outside source of "coolness." Personally, a Harley does not put anyone on my cool list. I own an antique Honda ('79 CB750K) that will outrun any stock Harley but a v-rod. It cost me $1k four years ago. Harley has a great history that their marketing is based on. I entered a Harley shop this past summer for the first time in over 10 years. Holy s**t! They have Harley everthing! They had an entire living room display set up in the store with everything from a pool table and accessories to the furniture and the area rug; all branded H-D. Then another section of apparel and bike gear. I estimated that they had as much floor space dedicated to accessories as to bikes. In my opinion, before global marketing, Harley had the best bike on the road because it was virtually the ONLY bike on the road. They were almost totally made in USA. Now they are not. Neither are Chevys or Fords. I own American car and truck because I support union labor. I am well aware that most of the parts are made overseas. Sorry, but we are, in general, slaves to marketing. Because they are just like the Caddie, they handle like crap and wheeze like an asthmatic. Riding a Harley is riding a part of american heritage and legend.Riding a different make of bike is like taking your sister to the drive-in. OK as long as no one see's you. I don't think Harley's are the Cadillac of motorcycles. Harley's are more like the Rolls Royce of motorcycles. because they are the best. |
