How much energy could a stationary exercise bike create? |
How much energy could a stationary exercise bike create? I read some time ago about a father who hooked one up to a generator that powered the television, so if his kids wanted to watch TV, they had to peddle. So clearly it generates enough to run small appliances (but I doubt it could run an AC). Add that to the fact that people spend something like 4-6 hours per day watching TV, and we've got a big chunk of the energy crisis solved (not to mention the obesity crisis). If everyone rode one we could create alot. Ed Begley Jr. (the actor) uses a stationary bike to make toast in the morning. I think he pedals for 10 - 15 minutes to produce 2 pieces of toast. It was on his TV show.... but I don't remember the name of it. He does regularly appear at the Studio City Farmers Market if you are local and wanted to ask him about it. it would probably depend on the type of generator. and how fast you can pedal i would say probably 40-100w depends how good the dynamo is and how hard you are pedalling. enough to power Chicago I heard about some university students who developed an eco friendly house and hooked their's up to a generator that powered the TV. I would like to do this to. Not only would it save energy, but it would discourage mindlesss TV watching. |
