Can I use my exercise bike to generate small amounts of electricty?

I am an avid stationary bike rider(at about 2hrs per day). It strikes me I could generate a trickle of electricity and through an inverter, charge up my "booster" car battery from which I could then power/'recharge small battery powered household appliances.

Yep, and it's probably easier than you think.
Get yourself one of those bike lights that uses a small motor that rubs the wheel for power (not a battery opertated one). Attach that to your stationary bike wheel and start pedalling. Chances are though, that these aren't 12v devices. That being said, virtually ANY DC motor will MAKE power if it is driven externally. You'd still need a way to regulate the output voltage and power, as it will vary depending on how fast you pedal.
