Is bike-riding good cardio for muscle building?

I have heard that fast walking is good cardio if you're trying to build mass because you do not go too fast to burn muscle like running or strenurous cardio, but what about an easy-paced bike ride, stationary?

Cycling puts load on some of your largest muscles and is therefore a good cardio workout. (Sexy legs and butt). An easy ride is an easy ride. Therefore why would you bother?

What you heard, I think is not correct.

Cardio workouts increase your heart rate and I speculate that they improve oxegenation of muscle tissue which helps them to bulk up. Even if that isn't so, during a cardio workout you burn energy.

The energy you use during exercise comes from somewhere... I think of it this way although simplified to the point of being inaccurate .... The energy used up during exercise will come from converting food first, if your muscles are not demanding to this food then they will deplete second, and finally your body will draw on fat reserves your body has previously stored from excess energy converted to fat.

With this sequence of energy consumption in mind, you will not build muscle mass if you do not exercise vigourously..... you will simply increase fat when your energy intake is higher than your consumption, since your muscles have little demand. This fat will be stored around vital organs and muscle tissue, giving a bulkier appearance.

If you do strenuous exercise you will build muscle mass so long as there is energy for the muscle to use, (that is, either excess fat or an energy intake, for example in the form of high protein, low carb food) otherwise you will deplete your muscle mass from exercise.

The trick is, I think, to perform vigourous exercise, including weight training and to consume only as much energy as you burn in any one day (including at rest and while you sleep).

Can you achieve sharply toned groups of muscles that gradually increase in mass to match the load you put on them by going on an easy ride? I dont think so.

for those who are heart healthy training at a high level of intensity is optimum for muscle building due to the related positive response from the endocrine system. training at a low level of intensity is not really optimum for anything.
