Exercising while Pregnant? |
I'm currently 9 wks and 5 days pregnant. However, I've already gained about 10 lbs which is too much I know. I'd like to introduce some low impact exercising to my daily routine. My question is which is better for me to purchase... a treadmill or a stationary bike? My mom swears by the bike. She rode one 30 min a day for the duration of her pregnancy with my brother and myself. It helped her keep from gaining the excess weight. Any suggestions? I'm currently in TN with the high of 105 and a feels like temperature of 110 degrees so needless to say I'm looking for safe indoor solutions!! Thanks :) when i got pregnant w/ my second i wanted to stay fit so i bought a treadmill and was faithful to it every day. i only gained 25 lbs this time and felt great right up until the end. i feel that walking gives you a better workout all over your body where as the bike mostly just your legs, its not as aerobic. just put it in front of a tv and go! I would get the treadmill. When you get very far along a stationary bike could be a challenge for you--they don't have very big seats, and your balance gets quite thrown off later in pregnancy-- but a treadmill will definitely always be safe (if you keep it at a comfortable pace). That's just my opinion though - but my doctor told me the best exercises for pregnant women are walking and swimming. I would do denise austin on lifetime everymorning if I was you!! I workout with her and watched what I ate and lost 5 lbs in one week!!! But you don't need to do that. you dont have to eat that much extra just like 200cals a day. But Denise is low impact and way fun. Plus if you already have cable/satellite its free. I bought an elliptical and i NEVER use it. Its too boring. Don't waste your money. I suggest a treadmill just because of logistics and they tend to work a little better as they are a little more customizable. If you do get one though, make sure to get one that has something to absorb shock well under the belt to save your knees and ankles especially as you get farther along. treadmill is better... just walk for at least 20 minutes a day and eat sensibly... no- you don't have to eat for two the bike will give you lots of pain down there... most of all towards the end My twin sister used a treadmill during the end of her pregnancy because she had diabetes. She looked like she had never had a child about 4 weeks after birth. So I would defiantly recommend the treadmill. I would go with the treadmill. It's really important to keep up with exercising. Not only does it cut down on the weight gain, but it also gets your body in shape for labor. I work out at Curves three times a week. It's really helped me because I haven't gained any weight. (I'm big anyway!) |
