Could my new exercise routine be shortening my period?

About 7 weeks ago I started exercising. I went from a pretty sedentary lifestyle to working out 4-6 days a week, 30-60 minutes a day. I usually walk/run on the treadmill and do "hills" on the stationary bike. My first period, after I started my new routine, lasted less than 2 days and the second one lasted about 3 days. Both weren't as heavy as they usually had been in the past. I have pretty predictable cycles but before all this it lasted 5-6 and was pretty heavy in the beginning, now it's down to half that. I've also been taking a "fat burning" pill everyday I exercise.鈥ㄢ€∕y question is could the new stress of all this exercise so soon and all the stuff in the pills be affecting my cycle? Do you think the working out has shortened my cycle and do you think it'll go back to normal once my body gets more used to exercising? Thanks for any help. Btw, if anyone is wondering, I'm not pregnant and these aren't "false periods".

It could be. Because you're putting your body under such a high amount of stress, it may have thrown off your body's hormone system. However, I'd be more concerned about the pill--I'm a little skeptical if a pill claims to be fat-burning.

I'd also be a little skeptical because it's been 7 weeks--I've read varying medical advice about missed periods, in which 1 or 2 shouldn't be really be an issue because of things like childbirth, stress, exercise, medication, illness, etc.

I would consult your doctor about your workout routine if you haven't already and ask him/her about the fat burning pill and whether it's right for you. Good luck! Source(s): Was a swimmer in high school--my periods stopped for a while.
May just be a weird random thing. You dont sound like you're exercising unhealthily so I wouldnt worry about it. If it continues for another 3 or 4 months then you might want to see a dr but a 2-3 day period is not something to worry about unless there are other troublesome symptoms (extreme PMS, fatigue, rapid weight loss, etc)
I'll take the honor of the only guy answering this one ;)

When I was in university I shared a flat with several female sports science students and lived with (intimately) a female biology student
And the answer is yes adding "diet pills" and exercise to your live can change your menstrual cycle.
your body should settle into a new routine after several months. If after that it continues to be random/sporadic then seek medical advice

Happy running
Yes it can!
It certainly can be because of exercise. Did you know some olympic gymnasts stop having their periods altogether? Until they aren't in training anymore? That's kind of scary. I would drop the fat burner though, that stuff creeps me out, and it's usually just a gimmick anyway.
