Which exercise machine should I get?



I am 17, 235 pounds, 5 feet 7 inches and I really have been trying to lose weight. I want a machine that provides a great cardiovascular workout. I want to do it every day, something that I could do while watching TV. I was thinking about a treadmill, Elliptical, stationary bike or stairmaster. Tell me which you think I should use and why. If you have a better one in mind tell me please! Thanks so much!

I don't think you need a machine to exercise, i don't think anyone does!

my best advice would be to get out in the sunshine, it helps to heat you up which will maximize the fat you burn and the fresh air will be great for your lungs as you'll be breathing hard from all that great exercise, once your out there just walk until you can jog, then jog until you can run and then run untill you can sprint! if you keep focused and make sure you keep out there for a decent amount of time and always moving you will always be making progress.

what works the best for me, and what i recommend the most is to get a music player and load it up with heaps of energetic inspiring music!

Studies show that folks stick with treadmills better than most equipment. I think it is because the walking/running is a natual motion.

Endurance is a function of both heart/lungs and specific conditioning of muscles for the movement used. Because one walks or runs on a treadmill, that training provides the best carry over endurance for real-life activities. Who moves like one does on an Ellipitical, when not on the machine?

Treadmills are versatile. They can be used for walking when you are lazy. They can incline enough so it feels like you are hiking. Of course, most treadmills have cushioning and provide low impact running.

I have a stationary bike, it is ok when the weather is bad and I want to keep in biking shape.

Anyone can use a treadmill, but if you are considering an Elliptical or stairmaster, I recommend paying the day fee at a health club to try these out for a few workouts. Five minutes of use at a store may not be enough to evaluate. Stairmasters can bother the knees of some folks.
